Nathan Bennett - Director of Hobby Niche
I got hooked on buying and selling trading cards about 3 years ago and creating my own set was something I always wanted to do. As a huge Aviation Geek, World Airports was the one I wanted to produce first.
TRADING TALK BY NATHAN BENNETT
What makes a trading card so special?
Collecting trading cards has become very popular over the past few years – I mean, it’s always been around since the early days in North America where Baseball and Hockey Cards were all the rage. But fast forward to today and it seems like a new generation of collectors has taking up this hobby.
For me, it all started when I was living in Canada back in 2021. I was hooked on chasing that hit within blaster boxes and hangar packs of NHL Hockey, NFL Football and Soccer. I remember clearly pulling my first 1 of 1 Gold Superfractor card. It triggered even more of a desire to keep chasing more. The card in question was a Lionel Messi. Let’s just say, I sold it for a nice four figure sum! Not bad return from a card that I pulled from a blaster box from Toys R Us.
What to look for!
Anything sparkly or chrome-like may have a number on it. These can be high numbered to 999 for example right down to a 1/1 - the only card of that type printed in the World.
Remember to look after your cards. Protect them in penny sleeves or plastic top loaders. Keeping the card pristine will only add to its value in years to come.
Keep an eye out for special insert cards such as autograph or relic cards. These tend to change hands for good money between collectors.
Don’t forget – if you are unsure about any cards you receive from Hobby Niche, just get in touch with us and we’ll be glad to help!
Lastly, enjoy the hobby!
